2011 ICC World Cricket League EAP Division One Twenty20 (Official Tournament)
In 2011 Papua New Guinea hosted the five team East Asia Pacific regional tournament at their Port Moresby facility. Japan played four Twenty20 matches and returned without a win in the competition. In November 2011 Japan took part in the 50-Over ICC Women’s 2012 World Cup Qualifying Series which was played in Bangladesh. Participation came as reward for winning the 2010 East Asia Pacific Trophy. The team travelled to Bangladesh to compete in a 10-team tournament. Japan were drawn in a group which included the hosts, Ireland, Pakistan and West Indies. In May 2012 the Pepsi ICC East Asia-Pacific Women’s Trophy was hosted in Vanuatu which, alongside the hosts would include Cook Islands, Fiji, Japan, Papua New Guinea and Samoa. Read More2012 Singapore Cricket Association Women’s Challenge
Following the success in Vanuatu, Japan were invited to take part in the Singapore Cricket Association’s Twenty20 Challenge tournament in July. Along with the hosts and Japan, Thailand and ‘Cricket Without Borders’ also competed. The Japan team finished top of the group with three wins and one match abandoned due to rain, but lost a tight final against Thailand. As preparation for the Twenty20 World Cup Qualifier in Ireland, the Japan team toured the UK playing in a host of friendly matches. As reward for winning the 2012 Pepsi ICC East Asia-Pacific Trophy, the Japan Women’s Team qualified to take part in the first round of qualifying for the Women’s World Twenty20 Tournament to be held in Bangladesh in 2014. The qualifying tournament took place in 2013 in Ireland. It was arranged in a round robin format, with Japan drawn against Ireland, Canada, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. In September 2014 the Japan Women’s Team took part in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, Korea. As in 2010, the tournament was held in the Twenty20 format. Japan were seeded courtesy of a third placed finish in 2010, which meant avoiding the group stage and going straight into a quarter final.
