The 2019 ICC Women’s EAP Qualifier took place in Vanuatu during May of that year and the Japan Team was coached by Duncan Harrison of Cricket Victoria and captained by Mai Yanagida. This was the first tournament where the matches were given official T20 International status by the ICC and so when Japan defeated Fiji in Round Three it was their first official victory under the new ICC rules.
