The Women’s Japan National Team enjoyed a near perfect day as they defeated Samoa by 71 runs on Match Day Two of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup East Asia Pacific Qualifier in Suva, Fiji.
Batting first this time, Japan made a steady start as Erika Oda (27) and Mai Yanagida (40) led the team to 62 for two at the end of the 11th over.
Haruna Iwasaki again provided an injection of power to the scoring, hitting 24 from 18 balls as Japan ended the 20 overs on 133 for five.
In the field the team were much improved from day one, and although Samoa made it to 20/0 in the first three overs, Japan roared back via Nonoha Yasumoto.
The left-armer took two wickets in the fourth over and would finish with her joint best international bowling figures of four for 11 in her four overs as Japan swiftly dismissed all ten Samoa batters for just 62 in the 14th over.
The win means a Japan win over the Philippines in their final group game on Friday will put them into the Semi-Finals.
