The Women’s Japan National Team earned a second win at the East Asia Cup by defeating Mongolia by 89 runs.
The win came after captain Mai Yanagida won the toss and chose to bat with several contributions as the team made 132 for six from their 20 overs.
Seika Sumi was the top scorer, making 26 not out as plenty of players got in but were unable to make a big score.
With the ball the spinners came to the fore, Yanagida in the wickets again with three for just five runs, while Kiyo Fujikawa also impressed with two for four on her first appearance of the tournament.
Shimako Kato (three for eight) nearly completed the win in style, grabbing three wickets in the final over, but narrowly missed out on a hat trick as Mongolia ended 43 for nine.
Japan will play China tomorrow morning with both teams on two wins and one loss, with the winner guaranteed a place in Sunday’s final against Hong Kong, who have confirmed their place with a game to spare.
