The Women’s Japan National Team bounced back from their opening day defeat to Hong Kong in the Women’s East Asia Cup to record a big win over host Korea.

Korea captain Song Seungmin won the toss and chose to bat, but that was as good as things got for the hosts. The captain battled gainfully to make 15, but nobody else made it to double figures as the Japanese bowlers, and fielders excelled.

Nonoha Yasumoto, Erika Toguchi-Quinn, Mai Yanagida and Elena Kusuda-Nairn all grabbed two wickets each, while Kusuda-Nairn also struck with a direct hit run out as Japan dismissed the hosts for just 36 in the 16th over.

Japan took the opportunity to try a new opening partnership and Seika Sumi and Ahilya Chandel took the score to 27 before the former was dismissed leaving captain Yanagida to strike the winning runs and earn her team the win by nine wickets with almost 15 overs to spare.

The team are next in action on Friday afternoon when they take on East Asia Cup debutants Mongolia.

All scores can be followed on the JCA Match Centre.
