The men’s Japan National team completed preparations for the ICC Men’s T20WC East Asia Pacific – Sub-Regional ‘B’ 2024 by earning a comfortable win over the Philippines.
Japan won the toss and chose to bat in a match reduced to 14 over-per-side due to a wet outfield.
Although the Philippines made a strong start to reduce Japan to six for two after three overs, Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming led the fight back with 37 off 22 balls.
A final total of 109 for eight was earned thanks to a late partnership of 51 from 30 balls between Koji Hardgrave-Abe (30 off 22) and Wataru Miyauchi (21* off 14).
Although Philippines made a fast start, the Japanese spinners quickly pegged them back, taking wickets regularly, while the fielders backed up the bowler.
A sharp catch from Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake set the tone before three run outs broke the spirit of the chase.
Japan ultimately restricted Philippines to 62 for eight from their 14 overs to complete a win by 47 runs which leaves the team in a positive mood before the tour opener against the same opposition on Saturday.
