Japan Top Following Victory Over Indonesia

Captain Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming marked a special personal landmark as he led his team to a convincing win over Indonesia and three wins out of three at the halfway mark of the ICC Men’s T20WC East Asia Pacific – Sub-Regional ‘B’ 2024.

Kadowaki-Fleming struck his seventh T20 International half century, to go with two centuries, and in doing so became the leading run scorer in the history of the Japan National Teams.

He passed his predecessor as captain, Masaomi (Amigo) Kobayashi with his first six of the day and went on to make 57 from just 29 balls in a game reduced to 13 overs per side.

Japan’s total of 121 for four always looked imposing and although the Indonesia batters made a reasonable start, the end of the powerplay slowed the scoring and wickets soon followed.

The spin attack grabbed four wickets for six runs in just 12 balls to effectively end the game as a contest, and Indonesia eventually ended the chase on 68 for five as Japan earned a win by 53 runs.

When asked after the game what the record meant to him, Kadowaki-Fleming said: “Records are nice but right now I am happier about the win and the performance. I’ve only been playing international cricket for a couple of years and I hope to go on and contribute as much to the sport in Japan as Amigo-San did during his time. His record may have gone but his legacy certainly hasn’t.”

Japan will take on the Philippines in their fourth match of the tournament on Wednesday 2nd October at 10:00.

The match can be followed live , while the tournament will all be live streamed on icc.com/videos

Japan Ease to Victory over Korea

An inspired bowling performance and calmness with the bat led Japan to a comfortable victory over Korea in the ICC Men’s T20WC East Asia Pacific – Sub-Regional ‘B’ 2024.

After Korea won the toss and chose to bat, it took until the fifth over for Japan to find their range.

The score of 22/0 became 25/5 as MVP Sabaorish Ravichandran (three for 11) Ibby Takahashi (two for 21) and then Charlie Hinze (two for nine) tore the Korean batting apart.

Ben Ito-Davis (two for 14) wrapped up the innings as Korea were dismissed for 78 off the last ball of the innings.

Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake (17 off 16 balls) got Japan off to a flier with boundaries off the first two balls of the chase, setting the tone for a comfortable victory.

Ibby Takahashi took up the aggressive approach with 22 from just ten balls, while captain Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming saw the team home with an untroubled 28* from 28 balls.

A win by seven wickets with 8.5 overs to spare gives Japan a healthy net run rate boost and puts Japan top of the table with two wins from two going into the rest day.

Japan Edge Philippines in Opener of East Asia Qualifier

The Men’s Japan National Team edged a tight contest in the opening match of the ICC Men’s T20WC East Asia Pacific – Sub-Regional ‘B’ 2024, defeating Philippines by two wickets.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, the fast start Philippines hoped for never materialised as Japan grabbed the early initiative.

A steadying partnership of 36 from 42 balls between Kulwinderjeet Singh (33 from 29) and Nivek Tanner (29 from 40) built a recovery from 11 for three but all six Japanese bowlers picked up wickets to keep the scoring in check.

Sabaorish Ravichandran led the way with an outstanding spell of four overs two wickets for just seven runs as Philippines finished 96 for nine from their 2o overs.

In the chase Japan also lost early wickets before Alex Shirai-Patmore (20 from 27) and Wataru Miyauchi (23 from 33) rebuilt but Philippines kept pegging Japan.

Ultimately back-to-back boundaries from Declan Suzuki broke the back of the chase, leaving just three needed from the final over which Japan made with just two wickets and one ball to spare.

Men’s Japan National Team beat Philippines by 47 runs

The men’s Japan National team completed preparations for the  ICC Men’s T20WC East Asia Pacific – Sub-Regional ‘B’ 2024 by earning a comfortable win over the Philippines.

Japan won the toss and chose to bat in a match reduced to 14 over-per-side due to a wet outfield.

Although the Philippines made a strong start to reduce Japan to six for two after three overs, Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming led the fight back with 37 off 22 balls.

A final total of 109 for eight was earned thanks to a late partnership of 51 from 30 balls between Koji Hardgrave-Abe (30 off 22) and Wataru Miyauchi (21* off 14).

Although Philippines made a fast start, the Japanese spinners quickly pegged them back, taking wickets regularly, while the fielders backed up the bowler.

A sharp catch from Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake set the tone before three run outs broke the spirit of the chase.

Japan ultimately restricted Philippines to 62 for eight from their 14 overs to complete a win by 47 runs which leaves the team in a positive mood before the tour opener against the same opposition on Saturday.

Japan will take on the Philippines in their first match of the tournament on Saturday 28th September at 10:00 am. The match can be followed live on the JCA Match Centre, while the tournament will all be live streamed on icc.com/videos

Men’s Japan National Team beat Indonesia by 4 runs

The Men’s Japan National Team held on for a narrow win in a one off T20 International match against Indonesia at the Yeonhui Cricket Ground in South Korea, defeating Indonesia by four runs.

The two teams will compete in the ICC Men’s T20WC East Asia Pacific – Sub-Regional ‘B’ 2024 starting on Saturday, and took the opportunity to take each other on as part of their preparations.

Captain Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming won the toss and chose to bat first, top scoring with 19 from 13 balls as the team struggled to build partnerships. A total of 104 for nine was boosted by lower order contributions from Ibby Takahashi (19) and Charlie Hinze (18).

For Indonesia Maxi Koda (three for 14) and Kekut Artawan (two for 18) were the pick of the bowlers and they went into the break in buoyant mood.

That confidence was short-lived as the Japanese spinners went to work and took regular wickets to leave Indonesia reeling at 35 for five in the 11th over.

A late partnership of 38 from 43 balls between Padmakar Surve (36 not out) and Gaurav Tiwari (13) kept the game alive, but 20 off the final over was too much and Indonesia finished four runs short on 100 for six after 20 overs.

Japan will take on the Philippines in another pre World Cup Qualifier International at the same venue on Thursday 26th September at the same time, before the tournament gets underway on Saturday.
