A new partnership between the Japan Cricket Association and Ikigai Sports will begin this year with the visit of Tony De Zorzi later this month.

De Zorzi, who has already played 25 times for South Africa at senior international level, will deliver a cricket clinic in a Japanese school in Sano as well as run a high performance training session for the Japan Under 19 team.

In addition, he will be present during the Japan Futures League to watch the next generation of Japanese players display their talent while assisting coaches and players by sharing his knowledge and experience.

Ikigai Sports Founder, Zukile Ncube, says: “This is a cultural exchange, a leadership development opportunity, and a moment to grow something long-lasting between our countries. Having someone of Tony’s calibre shows our commitment to excellence.”

De Zorzi himself said: “It’s an honour to be part of this initiative with Ikigai Sports and help grow the game in. Cricket has given me so much, and I’m excited to share what I’ve learned with young players who are just beginning their journey.”

The initiative is supported by the South African Embassy in Japan, highlighting its diplomatic significance and alignment with shared goals of youth empowerment and international cooperation.

Chief Operations Officer at the JCA, Alan Curr, said: “I was immediately impressed by the vision of Ikigai and the determination of Zukile to provide opportunities for people. It’s unusual for us to have a current player of Tony’s stature visit Japan, so we are grateful to both him and Ikigai and hope this can become a lasting partnership where all parties benefit.”

The Sano visit will take place between Friday 18th and Monday 21st April 2025.
