{"id":8124,"date":"2018-04-20T15:26:16","date_gmt":"2018-04-20T06:26:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/?p=8124"},"modified":"2018-04-27T13:34:57","modified_gmt":"2018-04-27T04:34:57","slug":"%e3%82%b8%e3%83%a3%e3%83%91%e3%83%b3%e3%82%ab%e3%83%83%e3%83%97%e9%96%8b%e5%b9%95","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/en\/%e3%82%b8%e3%83%a3%e3%83%91%e3%83%b3%e3%82%ab%e3%83%83%e3%83%97%e9%96%8b%e5%b9%95\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan Cup Season Kicks Off"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No fewer than 31 teams across seven regions will take part in the 2018 Japan Cup T20 tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The newest region to join in on the action is <a href=\"https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/archives\/competition\/japan-cup\/japan-cup-tohoku\">Tohoku<\/a>, where <\/span><b>Sendai <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cricket Club will battle it out with <\/span><b>Far Western<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the picturesque Post Office Ground in suburban Sendai. There is plenty of interest in cricket in the Tohoku region so expect some competitive matches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There will be five teams competing in the <a href=\"https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/archives\/competition\/japan-cup\/japan-cup-kinki\">Kinki<\/a> region again this year. The <\/span><b>Osaka Raiders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are early favourites to top the group but will encounter some stiff competition from new boys <\/span><b>Kobe Hawks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Both <\/span><b>Kyoto <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>Shiga-Kyoto<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are more than capable of springing an upset while <\/span><b>Uenomiya <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">contain plenty of talent and youthful enthusiasm. Matches will take place at the Kyoto Gakuen ground in Kameoka while Kinki eagerly awaits the completion of the new playing facility in Kaizuka, Japan\u2019s newest city of cricket. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Surely it\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/archives\/competition\/japan-cup\/japan-cup-south-kanto\">South Kanto<\/a> that boasts the most competitive Japan Cup group. Eight teams will again take part in the South Kanto competition at the Yokohama Country and Athletic Club. Picking a winner is an impossible assignment but the <\/span><b>Alpha Quashers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> carry the tag of favourites after going all the way to lift the trophy at the Japan Cup Finals series last year. <\/span><b>Indian Engineers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Tigers <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will again be strong and the <\/span><b>Wombats <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are as tough as old boots. <\/span><b>British Embassy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>YC&amp;AC<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will try to use every ounce of their experience and expect both <\/span><b>Keio Knights<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Aoyama Gakuin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to show substantial improvement from last year. Mouth-watering indeed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/archives\/competition\/japan-cup\/japan-cup-east-kanto\">East Kanto<\/a> has expanded to six teams with the edition of the <\/span><b>Nippon Tigers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but matches will be played in Sano this year due to the current redevelopment of the Sammu Cricket Ground. <\/span><b>Men In Blue<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are looking to make it three-in-a-row and it is hard to see who will knock them off their perch. Arch-rivals <\/span><b>Tokyo Falcons<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be nipping at their heals and <\/span><b>Rising Stars<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are sure to put in some spirited perfoemances. <\/span><b>Chiba Sharks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Tsukuba<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> struggled to mount a challenge last year but can\u2019t be discounted. Nippon Tigers will be an unknown quantity and might be capable of some surprises.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/archives\/competition\/japan-cup\/japan-cup-west-kanto\">West Kanto<\/a> often produces the most entertaining T20 cricket in Japan, spectators at the Showa Athletic Ground in Akishima regularly ducking for cover as sixes fly over the short boundaries. The <\/span><b>Wyverns<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> go in as favorites again but word is that the <\/span><b>University XI<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be putting out a very strong team this year. <\/span><b>Akishima<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> CC have a good mix of experience and youth while the <\/span><b>Beans <\/b>are<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0more than capable of putting the wind up their opposition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There has been plenty of drama in the off-season in <a href=\"https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/archives\/competition\/japan-cup\/japan-cup-north-kanto\">North Kanto<\/a> with several clubs falling off the radar, including last year\u2019s champions Samurai. Could this mean that a youthful <\/span><b>Sano <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CC return as a force in T20 cricket? They will need to get past the <\/span><b>Ceylon XI<\/b>,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0who will certainly be hard to beat. The two new teams to round out the North are the <\/span><b>Tokyo Titans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Rakuten<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It\u2019s a tough assignment for a club to win a title in its first season but don&#8217;t bet against it in North Kanto this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, <a href=\"https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/archives\/competition\/japan-cup\/tokai\">Tokai<\/a> will again host two teams at the beautiful Fuji Cricket Ground but there will be a slight change this year. After the mysterious disapperance of Fuji CC, the <\/span><b>Nagoya Bengal Tigers <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will join <\/span><b>Nagoya <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CC under the slopes of the mountain. The Bengal Tigers are a club on the rise but will have their work out against their experienced opponents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The champions of the Kanto regions, as well as representative teams from Tokai, Kinki and Tohoku, will qualify for the <a href=\"https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/archives\/competition\/japan-cup\/japan-cup-finals\">Japan Cup Finals<\/a> to be held, as always, in Sano. Lock in the dates of October 6th-8th to your calendars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Japan Cup officially kicked off on April 15th in Kameoka with the Raiders taking on the Hawks.
