They looked to use the early morning swing to put Japan under immediate pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Japan got off to a steady start and were 18-0 after three overs, but the game changed when they lost captain Kurumi Ota (1) as she was run out backing up.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5198\" src=\"https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Japan-vs-Samoa-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Japan-vs-Samoa-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Japan-vs-Samoa-2-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cricket.or.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Japan-vs-Samoa-2-1024x681.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Shizuka Miyaji (27*) batted throughout the innings but struggled to build a partnership of any significance as regular wickets fell with Matile Uliao (2-5), the pick of the Samoan bowlers, frustrating the Japanese.<\/p>\n<p>In reply, Samoa were assured in their approach of the run chase.<\/p>\n<p>Japan started with an attacking field and a slip in place. But it was to no avail. Apart from a half chance of a catch Samoa did not give a sniff.<\/p>\n<p>Shizuka Miyaji (0-13) bowled well from her four overs but openers Via Andrew (30*) and Player of the Match Lagi Telea (25*) batted sensibly and made light work of the target.<\/p>\n<p>Japan need to make vast improvements ahead of their next match against Vanuatu at 1.30pm tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>After the match, coach Katrina Keenan said: \u201cIt was a disappointing batting performance, but we\u2019ve identified some areas to work on and I would expect to see some improvements over the course of the tournament.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the day\u2019s other match, Papua New Guinea defeated Vanuatu <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espncricinfo.com\/ci\/engine\/match\/1090886.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">by 9 wickets<\/a>.
